Hector Montalvo, managing director of Source Marketing Direct, was invited to speak on both days of a two-day conference hosted by the UK outsourced sales and marketing industry.
The conference was held on Friday 6th and Saturday 7th September at the Crowne Plaza in Birmingham. The Friday event was by invitation only, where just 25 of the UK’s most promising small business owners were in attendance. Source Marketing Direct’s Hector Montalvo was the keynote speaker; the topic was on ‘Developing a Workforce’. The topic covered areas such as people management, delegation and micro-management, and developing a culture of excellence. “I find the topic of workforce development an extremely important one,” says Hector Montalvo of Source Marketing Direct. “As business owners, we have to remember that a company’s success is a reflection of its leaders – everything filters down from us.
At Source Marketing Direct we have always fostered that entrepreneurial spirit, which allows contractors to work together towards a collective business goal.” Montalvo considers that instilling the right culture early on as opposed to restructuring later down the line is crucial for a successful business, as IBM research shows that 60-90% of organisational change initiatives fail. “The small business owners at Friday’s conference were mostly in the early years of their corporate careers, so now is the best time to really start implementing a culture of success and excellence in their organisations, as this is what will help them to attain sustainable growth,” adds Hector Montalvo, managing director of Source Marketing Direct.
The second day of the conference was the Open Event on Saturday 6th, which hosted approximately 150 business owners from the direct sales and marketing industry. Hector Montalvo was invited as a guest speaker for Saturday’s event, speaking on ‘The Foundations of Direct Marketing’. Hector Montalvo believes that a ‘back to basics’ talk is helpful to enable business owners to refocus on their industry and look at the bigger picture. The UK direct marketing industry was worth £14 billion as of August 2012, and is expected to have grown to £15.2 billion by the beginning of this year, according to the Direct Marketing Association.
Hector Montalvo is a frequent speaker at industry events; just two weeks previously he was a speaker at the Lisbon outsourced sales conference, and earlier in the year has hosted entrepreneurship and quality control seminars in London and Manchester. “Events like these are extremely useful, both for networking and for gaining information that can take your business to the next level,” says Hector Montalvo, managing director of Source Marketing Direct.
