Steve Jobs, best known for co-founding the world’s most innovative technological giant Apple, passed away this morning after a long battle with pancreatic cancer. The disease saw Jobs retire as CEO with Apple in August after helping start the company in 1976.

US President Barack Obama said this morning “By building one of the planet’s most successful companies from his garage, he exemplified the spirit of American ingenuity. By making computers personal and putting the Internet in our pockets, he made the information revolution not only accessible, but intuitive and fun”.

Bill Gates, Microsoft, said “The world rarely sees someone who has had the profound impact Steve has had, the effects of which will be felt for many generations to come. For those of us lucky enough to get to work with him, it’s been an insanely great honor. I will miss Steve immensely”.

Source Marketing Direct, UK based marketing and sales firm, is one company where Steve Job’s legacy will continue far beyond the products he built.

Hector Montalvo, CEO of Source Marketing Direct, commented this morning “It was not only the Mac computers, the I-pads, the I-phones, the I-pods, the technology that we use every day in our firm that I thought of when I heard the news about Jobs’ death, but more so it was his influence in our business values and systems that I reflected on. Steve Jobs was an absolute inspiration in the business world and I have taken so much from his philosophies. His story is one of true encouragement; I have referenced Steve as an example many times when I have spoken on topics involving workplace motivation and entrepreneurship.

In his speech at Stanford University in 2005 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UF8uR6Z6KLc Job’s said “Your time is limited, so don’t waste it living someone else’s life. Don’t be trapped by dogma — which is living with the results of other people’s thinking. Don’t let the noise of others’ opinions drown out your own inner voice. And most important, have the courage to follow your heart and intuition”. This view that he had, this passion, was no doubt what pushed him to achieve the things he did in his life, and I aim to continue with this in my own venture here with Source Marketing Direct”.
